Visiting Milan for Design Week 2023
Visiting Milan during Design week means the step count is high! Firstly the Rho showgrounds are huge with 19 halls of goods on display (with 4 dedicated to lighting) for Salone de Mobile including Euroluce, then there is the city of Milano itself which turns on its best display for the thousands of designers and architects that visit. Brand showrooms are competitive to create new immersive displays for the products to engage you. If you arrive early (as we did) the day beforehand, the sound of construction continues after hours to meet the opening deadline!!
Many of the brands without Milano showrooms find an inspirational venue to host their displays, invite only of course, to attend their event. We browsed new collections accompanied with Aperol spritz, and Italian style canapes to enjoy!
We were wooed with beautiful events set in lush gardens with outdoor furniture, a 15th century monastry, Chiostri dell Umanitara, complete with string quartet, the Brera design district was vibrant with installations such as the fun Missoni installation featuring new patterns and colours, and the Gubi furniture brand celebrated their 10th anniversary taking over the Bagni Misteriosi (The Mysterious Baths), a stunning 1930s outdoor swimming pool and terrace.
